Investigators say a suspicious package found inside the Henrietta Walmart was a device that was made to look like a bomb. That device turned out to be an electronic fish finder wrapped in tin foil; it was not a device that could explode.
Walmart had to be shut down for several hours Thursday morning after a manager found the package inside a men's bathroom just before 4:30 a.m. Sheriff's deputies were called to the store and they called in the bomb squad.
Investigators brought in a robot to search for the package inside the store. Once they retrieved it, it was brought to another location so investigators could take a closer look at it and take it apart.
News10NBC talked with officials at the scene on their approach to working an incident like this in the wake of recent events like what happened in Boston last month. Captain Paul Delella said, “With the Boston incident this brings a heightened alert, but to be honest with you, prior to Boston the response would have been no different.”
Employees and customers were let back into the store at around 8 a.m. after officials removed the package and searched the rest of the store.
