The Army Corps of Engineers will dredge the Port of Rochester and Irondequoit Bay.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter made the announcement Thursday saying this will help businesses along the lake and bay stay afloat and keep jobs.
Since 2008, her office says more than 200,000 cubic yards of sediment has accumulated along the harbor, giving many ships a very hard time navigating and bringing things in or out of the area.
Congresswoman Slaughter says the Corps expects to begin dredging next year. The exact start date will be determined on the weather.
