Some tense moments on the city's north side as police and sheriff's deputies cornered a suspect in a Perinton home invasion.

Deputies took several suspects into custody Friday for that home invasion, but before they arrested one of them, police got into a standoff with him in Rochester.

It happened at Lakeview Park just off Dewey Avenue and it forced the lockdown of a nearby elementary school.

Dewey Avenue was closed down for nearly two hours. Police and patrol cars were all over the place.
The suspect had barricaded himself in a house after sheriff's deputies tried to arrest him as one of the suspects in a home invasion in Perinton about 11:00p.m. Thursday.

Police took up positions around the house and negotiators got the man on the phone. After almost two hours, the man came out and gave up. He was then quickly put in handcuffs and taken away.

At the Alpine Knolls Apartment Complex in Perinton, no one answered the door to apartment number 315. That's where the sheriff says this home invasion happened.

Drew Forsythe, Monroe County Sheriff Chief Deputy, said, “Guy came to the door and refused to come out. Basically, he barricaded himself inside with some weapons. The suspect came out after negotiations a short time later and was taken into custody.”

News10NBC also spoke with a woman who lives in the same apartment building where the home invasion took place. She said she only heard something when the sheriff's deputies pulled up with their guns drawn.

Sandra Barbato, Lives in Apartment Building, said, “All I know is the cops showed up and told us to stay inside and that was it.”

There were no shots fired and the kids in the school were not in danger. The sheriff said the victims of the home invasion were treated for minor injuries and they were still being interviewed Friday afternoon.

The sheriff said the people were known to each other. They gave us no other details.
