The Rochester Police Department says an overnight stabbing turned into a police chase on the city's west side.

Officials say officers were on patrol in the area of Lyell Avenue and Orchard Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning when they saw a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. As the pulled up, officers witnessed a 40-year-old man, who had been stabbed in the arm, get pushed out of the vehicle. The suspect in the car then took off.

Officers pursued the vehicle, but ended the chase because of reckless driving by the suspect.

Police say later on, the suspect was involved in a crash on Atlantic Avenue in Penfield. At that time, the 25-year-old male suspect was taken into custody by deputies.

Police say the investigation into the stabbing is still underway. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
