More high marks for Southwest Airlines. A survey of the world's 22 largest airline frequent flyer programs ranked Southwest number one in seat availability.
According to the fourth annual Switchfly Reward Seat Availability Survey, members in the Southwest frequent flyer program were able to redeem their reward miles 100-percent of the time.
Of U.S.-based airlines, AirTran ranked third with 95-percent seat availability. JetBlue was fifth at 88-percent and United ranked eighth with 80-percent.
American, Delta and U.S. Airways ranked low on the list with less than 50-percent seat availability.
Industry experts say the reason value airlines like Southwest, AirTran and JetBlue score well is because they have fewer frequent flyer members with fewer reward miles to cash in.
