The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is coming down hard on many of the small SUVs you see on the road.
The highway safety group tested 13 small SUVs by smashing them corner-first into a wall -- a kind of crash that is usually deadly for the car's occupants.
The Institute's Joe Nolan says only one of the 13 small SUVs earned its overall rating of “good” -- the 2014 Subaru Forester. “The majority don't do a very good job of managing the energy once you get out closer to the corners of the vehicle."
Only one other small SUV actually passed then crash test. The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport received a rating of "acceptable". While the other 11 had poor ratings in at least one of the test categories.
