The new Wegmans store on East Avenue finally opened up Sunday morning.
Store employees along with Mayor Tom Richards helped kicked off the opening day in style with a ceremony just before the store opened around 7 a.m. Sunday morning. Officials tell News10NBC this new store took years of planning and has twice the space of the former store.
Officials also say the new, larger store offers more fresh food departments along with a Fruit and Veggie Market, where produce is clean, cut and sold. There will also be more prepared food to choose from in the new store including a Vegetable Bar, Asian Bar along with areas for sushi, pizza, subs and coffee.
News10NBC stopped by Sunday afternoon as shoppers walked the aisles and filled up their carts for the first time. They say they're pretty impressed with what they see.
"I like it a lot. It reminds me of the Pittsford Wegmans on a smaller scale, which is good because the Pittsford Wegmans is pretty big,” said shopper Kathi Irving.
Officials say the store will be open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
