Dozens of local World II veterans made an emotional return home to friends, family and fellow military members Sunday afternoon on the year's second Honor Flight.
They visited the War Memorial in Washington D.C. and had the chance to reflect on those who were lost in World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War.
"This is basically the homecoming most of them never got. At the end of World War II there were a few big parades in some of the cities, but most of the guys came home individually, on trains and buses, got picked up at the different stations by friends, and there was never a big welcome home,” said Rick Meier from Honor Flight Rochester.
There are at least four more Honor Flights scheduled from now to October.
