As the Rochester area gears up for the championship at Oak Hill County Club in August, on Friday you will have an opportunity to catch up on the history of the tournament and the players who have made the sport of golf famous!
The PGA Championship History Exhibit opened Friday morning at the Rochester Museum and Science Center with displays about past champs and modern-day legends like Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
The exhibit features 95 years of golf history including clubs, clothes and championship plaques. Among one of the special items for Rochester -- the birth certificate of Rochester's very own Walter Hagen.
The museum's director of education says it's a very special exhibit to have here in Rochester. Calvin Uzelmeier, PhD said, “We are at our heart, the community's museum so it's a great opportunity for us to be here, to come and live out some of these memories. It really highlights some great history of our city. We’ve hosted some great tournaments here, and we've even got some Rochestarians who are winners.”
The exhibit will be open through Monday, September 2.
A special display for defending champion Rory McIlroy will debut later this summer.
