The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says that thousands of gallons worth of liquid manure was spilled after a tractor-trailer rolled over in Bath.
That crash happened Saturday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. on Shattuck Road in Bath. Deputies say 29-year-old Robert Taylor was driving a tractor-trailer filled with about 6,000 gallons worth of liquid manure when truck rolled on its side and the tank cracked. The manure as well as about 30 gallons of diesel fuel leaked onto the road way.
Investigators say the road was closed for four hours for cleanup and the manure was drained into a nearby creek, where it was contained.
Officials are still trying to determine what caused the crash. The tractor-trailer that Taylor was driving was owned by a local farm. Deputies were assisted by DEC Spill Response along with Bath Fire and State Police.
