She lost her mom, sister and a first cousin, all to breast cancer. Annie Parker has even battled the disease herself.

Her experience is the basis for "Decoding Annie Parker.” Gilda's Club held a film screening and a meet and greet Monday night. The movie details how Parker's experience and diagnosis led a research scientist to discover the BRCA 1 and 2 genes.

Parker says the movie is about much more.

Annie Parker said, “This movie isn't just about breast center, it's also about how it affects the family. It's about laughter and tears and what people go through emotionally to get through the diagnosis of cancer, whether it be breast or any other form of cancer.”

“Decoding Annie Parker” has been named an “official selection” at Cannes and other film festivals. It recently won an award at the Seattle Film Festival. It is due in theaters this fall.
