The Supreme Court is expected to hand down rulings on Wednesday morning for two decisions that could change how same-sex marriage is treated in the United States.
The justices will decide whether to uphold California's "Proposition Eight" and the "Defense of Marriage Act," or 'DOMA.'
'DOMA' denies married same-sex couples federal benefits, such as social security and joint filing on taxes.
Proposition Eight, which was passed by California voters in 2008, only recognizes marriage between a man and a woman.
