The Greater Rochester International Airport has received $492,667 from the FAA. Senator Chuck Schumer made the announcement on Friday.
News10NBC is told the funding will be sued to purchase a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle to meet airport safety requirements.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter said, “Passenger safety is our number one priority. From bringing low-cost carriers to Rochester to leading the effort for improved safety in the wake of the Flight 3407 tragedy, I’m proud to be an integral part of these improvements to our airport."
The current ARFF was purchased in 1994 and has reached the end of its life.
