His name is Ralph Dion Strong Junior but some people around the local music scene might know him better as Irak The Prince. He's a hip hop artist and we found many pictures, videos and a website promoting his music.
His lyrics include lines like, “Right price round here I catch a murder rap.” His website, which has since been taken down, includes a bio that states that he is also a member of a rap group known as the 585-Murda-Gang.
Thursday’s shootout near Goodman and Norton Streets is just about three blocks away from where Strong lives. News10NBC went there today and there were several people at the home ut they politely declined comment.
At a news conference Friday, Mayor Tom Richards was asked about the culture of drugs and violence that strong seems to focus on in his music. Richards would only say that there's a lesson in what happened yesterday. “Whatever he glorified, he's come to an inglorious conclusion here. So you can draw your own conclusions about that, about what he may or may not have done before. But surely the end he came to is nothing to glorify. And that might be a lesson for someone however you look at it."
Chief Sheppard would not discuss Strong’s prior criminal history but he did say he was known to police.
News10NBC found that Strong pled guilty to dealing crack cocaine in 2005 and served about two years in federal prison.
