On July 2, 1863, the United States was immersed in the Battle of Gettysburg. 150 years later, members of the Rochester community gathered to remember a local colonel and other soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

On Tuesday, community members honored Colonel Patrick O'Rorke with a wreath laying ceremony and gun salute at the All Souls Chapel at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Colonel O'Rorke was killed while leading his regiment into battle against the Confederate Army. History records show he played a crucial role in stemming the opposing army's advance.

During the ceremony, students from School #9 recited the Gettysburg address. School #9 was Colonel O'Rorke's alma mater.

The O'Rorke Bridge in Charlotte is named after Colonel O'Rorke and his sacrifice.
