A nine-year-old girl from France has died after she fell off a horse while participating at a Y overnight camp in the Adirondacks.
Y officials say the accident happened around 9:00a.m. on Thursday at Camp Gorham, an overnight camp in the Adirondacks that is owned and operated by the Y of Greater Rochester.
Officials tell News10NBC the children were being walked on horseback along a trail when one of the horses was spooked, which resulted in a chain reaction. They say the nine-year-old girl fell off her horse and was airlifted to a hospital nearby. The girl passed away from her injuries on Saturday.
The Y released a statement saying, “Our hearts are broken by the loss of this child, and our condolences go out to her parents and extended family. This is a great loss for her family and for our camp family. The health and safety of our campers is our first and foremost concern. This was a tragic accident.”
