Rochester firefighters battled a house fire on the City's east side Wednesday night.

Crews were called to a house on North Union Street at around 8:45.

Officials tell News 10NBC a person was seen at the window of the house, but fled after people outside started yelling about the fire.

Firefighters rescued a dog from the second floor. There was no one else inside.

Officials say there is extensive damage to the back of the building, and the fire could have spread to a house next door.

The Red Cross was on scene to make an assessment.
