It's all about keeping kids safe. The city's recreation department held a bike rodeo for kids in the summer recreation program.
Kids come to the Rochester Public Market where they're able to keep busy with projects and activities from the city's Recreation on the Move vehicles until its turn their turn on a bike.
Once they're up, recreation employees and members of the Rochester Police Department's Bike Patrol Unit teach the kids all about bike safety, including how important it is to wear a helmet.
Michele Aman, City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation, said, "A lot of kids will ride around on the streets without a helmet on and it might be maybe just because they don't have one so we're here to give them that resource and tell them how important it is to be safe, especially if you're biking around the city."
All the kids who participated in a bike rodeo do get a free helmet to take home with them. These events are being held throughout the entire month of July at the Rochester Public Market. Your kids do need to register through the city's recreation department to take part in one.
