It will still be a little while until we know where a new medical facility for veterans will be located.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter held a conference call Tuesday to give an update on that project. The $14.6 million grant will go towards building a new medical center to replace the overcrowded facility on Westfall Road.
In that call, the congresswoman said her team is working with other agencies to find the perfect location for the new center, but we probably won't have an update on the location until September.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter said, "We have a veterans person both in Rochester and in Washington, and we've been in contact with the Veterans Administration sometimes daily, at least weekly, during all this period to get this done. It's terribly important to meet the needs of the veteran population in Rochester."
Congresswoman Slaughter says the 84,000 square foot facility will offer primary care, women's care, mental health care, specialty services and in-home care, along with a number of other services.
