Heat advisory in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans and Wayne Counties until 6:00p.m. Wednesday.

A heat advisory is issued when the heat index reaches at least 100 degrees, but is less than 104 degrees for two or more hours per day.

Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat related illnesses. As the temperatures rise, residents should avoid strenuous activity, drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine and seek air conditioned spaces to avoid heat-related illness.
