Are you for or against a casino coming to our area? News10NBC learned it is a possibility. The Seneca Nation of Indians announced they are looking for ways to grow their gaming operations in Henrietta.

Right now, the plan is in the conceptual stage. The Seneca Nation is working with Flaum Management Company to get ideas on where they could build and what kind of gaming center would work best in Henrietta. That could mean a full-fledge casino like Seneca Niagara, but it could also mean a smaller, specialized gaming center.

News10NBC talked to a spokeswoman for the Seneca Nation. She said that it's been no secret that they have been very interested in expanding to Rochester. She says it will be very beneficial for the Seneca Nation and the Rochester area.

Susan Asquith, spokeswoman for the Seneca Nation of Indians, said, “Well, I would think, the one thing the Senecas have always said, 'Is no matter where I go I want to be a good community partner.' They want to partner with their municipal friends and create alliances that create jobs and help transform, rebuild communities. Not only for the Senecas, but the non-Senecas as well. They employ just as many non-Senecas as they do Senecas.”

News10NBC is trying to talk to the Henrietta Town Supervisor to get his reaction to all of this. News10NBC did call Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, but her spokesperson says they aren't commenting until there is a concrete proposal.

It will still be a while before a proposal is released. The idea phase has to be completed and then a site and gaming center concept has to be selected. Then we will see an official proposal to the town.
