Rochester has the best drinking water in New York State. The city was named the winner in New York State's Drinking Water Taste Test, which is held annually by the New York State Department of Health.
The results were announced at the New York State Fair where the final round was held. More than 250 fairgoers picked Rochester as the winner from ten water systems that had won regional contests.
According to the New York State Department of Health, Rochester residents consume an average of 21.1 million gallons of water per day. The source of the water comes from Hemlock and Canadice Lakes.
The village of Fort Plain was named the runner-up in the contest.
