It's back-to-school time and some students in the city school district are doing their part to help make sure others have the supplies they need.

News10NBC caught up with some students Friday night who were holding a rollers kating fundraiser. While they skated and had fun, they were also raising money for backpacks and supplies for students in the city.

The program is funded through people in the community as well as businesses. Organizers say it's more than just supplies though, the group also strikes to empower youth and get them involved in the community in positive ways.

One student we spoke with says if you're on the right track, good things will happen.

Student Louis Bell says, "It feels great to know that you've done all this hard work and went through all this hardship and make sure stuff happens. Make sure kids have things to go back to school with and make sure other kids have fun. It feels really good."

Organizers say they have raised a few thousand dollars this year for school supplies and will continue to take donations to help students.
