Authorities say they're investigating the theft of about 4,000 pounds of copper from a western New York power station.

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office tells local media outlets that thieves made off with about $20,000 worth of copper during three separate thefts that occurred in June and August at the Wind Farm power station in the rural town of Orangeville, 33 miles east of Buffalo.

Deputies say the copper was taken from large wooden spools and other areas at the power station, which isn't online yet.

The sheriff's office says it has contacted all scrap yards in the area, asking them to be on the lookout for large quantities of copper being sold.
