High school football kicks off Friday night.

Webster Schroeder hosts Rush-Henrietta. R-H will be lead by new quarterback, Jared Gerbino, as Chancey Scissum has graduated and is now playing at Syracuse. He was a main reason why the Comets were favored to win sectionals last year, but Aquinas upset R-H and the Little Irish went on to win its seventh straight sectional title.

A-Q's quest for eight in a row begins Friday in Buffalo against Bishop Timon. The Irish are poised for another big year as all eyes are on sophomore quarterback Jake Zembiec. He is poised for a big year after starting as a freshman. Seven others will return on offense for Aquinas.

Last season, Aquinas moved up to Class AA by choice and they still couldn't be slowed down. A challenge is something this team is always looking for.

Chris Battaglia, Aquinas Head Coach, said, "Our schedule is brutal, we play a wild schedule this year. Every game is going to be tight. We're going to use the old adage and go one game at a time, not worry about wins and losses and see where we are when the playoffs start and then we're going to hopefully try and get on a roll and play really well and see if we can compete for another one."

Jake Zembiec, sophomore quarterback, said, “Expectations are even higher. Sectionals is almost an expectation around here, but States is always our goal and that's what we work for everyday in practice.”

News10NBC's Justin Granit will bring you highlights from eight games Friday night including Aquinas and Bishop Timon, East High vs. Hilton, Greece Arcadia vs. Eastridge, Victor vs. Churchville, Webster Schroeder vs. Rush-Henrietta, Gates Chili vs. Pittsford, Franklin vs. Irondequoit and McQuaid vs. Canisius.
