Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and local leaders came together Tuesday morning to address a serious issue in the county, which is infant mortality.
They announced that the county has established a partnership with the Perinatal Network of Monroe County to better study the issue. Brooks was joined by Perinatal Network Executive Director Patricia Brantingham. She says infant mortality can be a strong indicator of the health of the entire population.
Patricia Brantingham, Perinatal Network Executive Director, said, "So we know that if we have high infant mortality rates as we do, we know that we have high disparity in infant mortality rates which is the real story then we know we have public health issues throughout."
Brooks and Brantingham signed an official memorandum of understanding between the county and the network. The goal is to better understand infant mortality in hopes of preventing it in the future.
