A giant brawl this past Friday night at the Regal Culver Ridge Theater has many concerned. Irondequoit Police say there were 400 to 500 people involved. They also say they got a tip that the fight was going to happen.
Police say it all started inside the movie theater. The teens were watching “Insidious: Chapter Two” when a fight broke out. People in the theater Friday night say the fight just grew and grew.
Irondequoit Police say they got a tip from social media earlier Friday evening about a possible fight. Because of that tip, they had officers at the theater and were working with Regal security to stop the fight they thought would be happening after the show when everyone was walking out.
News10NBC's Amanda Ciavarri asked, “ If you knew about it before and Regal security knew about it before and you were working to try and avoid this, how did it happen?”
Richard Tantalo, Deputy Chief, Irondequoit Police Department, said, “Well, in the sense that the tickets to the theater, for the showing, were already discharged so we had the police in the theater. We had the information that this might occur, but no reason to evacuate the theater at that particular point. And that's a management decision on part of the Regal theater.”
While police were there at the time of the fight, they were not inside the theater and weren't aware of the fight until it spilled out of the theater.
One minor has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, but because that person is underage that's all the information police are releasing.
News10NBC also wanted to know from the theater if they are doing anything different, security wise to keep movie goers safe. They did not respond to our phone calls, but we will keep trying to get that answer for you.
