Fewer people are dying from cancer thanks to improvements in cancer research over the past 20 years but more research funding is needed. That’s according to the “Cancer Progress Report 2013” which looks at the advances in cancer research.
Data shows there have been one-million fewer cancer deaths since 1990 and the FDA has approved 11 new cancer drugs and three new imaging technologies over the past year. But researchers project 1.6-million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and say it will become the number one disease-related killer in this country.
Experts are imploring the government to make funding cancer research a priority to benefit patients and the economy.
