The University of Rochester says it’s committing $50-million to expand its work in the field of data science. U of R President Joel Seligman says this is in addition to the $50-million already invested on data science in recent years.
The commitment includes the creation of an Institute for Data Science, construction of a building to house it and as many as 20 new expert faculty members.
University officials tell News10NBC the new faculty member will be recruited in many fields including biostatistics, psychiatry, physics, computer science, political science with data science being a main component of their work.
Seligman made the announcement as part of his opening remarks at the Rochester Big Data Forum 2013.
