Texas has nearly 30,000 toll scofflaws with outstanding fees, and that accounts for a whole lot of money in a state that desperately needs funds for road maintenance (Houston concrete contractors need to get paid just like everyone else!) and other activities. Since sending stern letters, begging, pleading, and ominous warnings haven't worked, the state has come up with another tactic: a showdown at high noon Texas time today.
Anyone who hasn't paid up by the deadline will be publicly named and shamed tomorrow morning by the Texas Department of Transportation. Those who chronically refuse to pay tolls could be in for serious penalties beyond being publicly named: their vehicle registrations may be denied and they could be refused admittance onto toll roads.
So...if you haven't settled your bill with the Texas Department of Transportation, now might be a good time to do it.View original post.
