A Fairport man was found dead in a corn field in Pittsford.

The body of 49-year-old Jeffrey Newland was found Tuesday in a corn field of Golf Avenue in Pittsford. Sheriff's Deputies say he died from a gunshot wound and his death is being treated as a homicide.

Newland was last seen on Monday around 5:00a.m. He was reported missing on Monday evening when his vehicle was found parked on Golf Avenue.

The sheriff's office released very few details about the investigation. They say family members were the ones who located Newland's car and immediately called 911.

The car was found with the doors open and a jack underneath. Investigators are looking into whether or not he had trouble with his car. They do not know if Newland was alone when he arrived at the corn fields and they would not comment on what kind of gun was used.

Newland had his own website, Best2Things.com. On there, he seemed very motivational, trying to help others and pushing people to dream big. He was previously the founding president of the Rochester Mentors, one of the several programs linked with the group, Lifespan.  He was also past Executive Director Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester.

There are no suspects at this time. The sheriff's office is hoping someone out there know something. If you have any information, call 911 or the Sheriff's Central Records Unit at 753-4178.
