Before joining the Sabres, Patrick Kaleta briefly played for the Amerks during the 2007-2008 season. The Buffalo native never expected to leave his home city for Rochester again. But following a 10 game suspension for an illegal hit, Kaleta was placed on waivers, not a single team made a trade for him. So Kaleta joined the minor league club Tuesday morning.

The hit on Columbus's Jack Johnson was the third major offense in three years by Kaleta, which prompted his demotion. It has not been confirmed, but general manager Darcy Rieger has hinted that the NHL had a say in sending Kaleta down to the AHL.

So Kaleta is in Rochester where the 28-year-old will try to learn how to hit properly. If not, he may never find himself back in the NHL.

Amerks Head Coach Chadd Cassidy said Kaleta had a positive attitude in Tuesday morning's skate. The forward will not play in Wednesday night's game, but is expected to suit up this weekend.
