Experts say this was Merry Christmas for retailers.
According to Mastercard Advisors' spending-pulse report, holiday sales this year were better than last year, even though there were 6 fewer shopping days.
Between November 1 and December 24, sales rose 2.3% percent, compared to 0.7% a year ago.
Some analysts have called this holiday season the most competitive since the recession in 2008, as retailers slashed prices and used other incentives to convince people to buy.
