Rochester's first homicide of the year happened just after midnight.

The first 911 call came in around 3 a.m. Officers say there was a fight at a private party inside a recording studio on Lois Street, which is off Lyell Avenue near Child Street.

According to police, two people were shot by the same suspect. A 23-year-old man was declared dead at the scene and a 27-year-old man was taken to the hospital and later released.

Police do not have a suspect in custody and officers are still interviewing witnesses.

Police say Captain John Corbelli was injured on his way to that shooting. We’re told Corbelli was on Lyell Avenue with his lights on when a car turned in front of him and struck his cruiser. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released.
