What's old is new again. Today News10NBC got a sneak peek inside what will become the first new grocery store in downtown Rochester in more than a decade.
The store will be Winthrop Street off East Avenue right next to the Little Theatre.
Over the next four months the building will be transformed into Hart's Local Grocers. For the past 20 years it's been home to Craig Autometrics.
At a news conference this morning we found out the store is named after an old Rochester neighborhood market called Hart's. It’s a name that hasn't been seen here since the 1940's.
We are told local and regional products will be the focus of this new store. General Manager Dean Sparks said, “Our demographic is wide open. We welcome everyone here and we hope to have several meat and vegetable opportunities for everyone, so we encourage everyone in the neighborhood and we're also hoping to encourage everyone within the city to visit a great local grocer.”
More than 30 employees will be hired by this spring. Hart’s Local Grocers is set to open in May.
