The benefits of yoga for breast cancer survivors

Yoga can help relax, strength and recharge. Now a new study shows it can also help breast cancer survivors feel better after undergoing treatment.  

Researchers say relief from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation can be found in the calming environment of a yoga class. Experts found practicing yoga twice a week for three months helped reduce patient fatigue by more than half.

Blood samples showed lower levels of inflammation, a sign of measurable health benefits.


Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, Ph.D., Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center, said, " We know high inflammation is associated with cardiovascular disease, with osteoporosis, with type 2 diabetes, with frailty and functional decline."


Experts say the deep breathing and mediative qualities of yoga may be the key to the relief breast cancer patients feel.
