The son of a local town judge is under arrest, accused of drug and weapons charges.

Twenty-year-old Louis Nitti was arrested in December along with another man during a traffic stop in Greece. Nitti is the son of Greece Town Judge Gino Nitti. Word of the arrest was first reported on a blog Wednesday.

As a judge, Gino Nitti is used to doling out justice to the defendants that come before him in Greece Town Court. But now, he is trying to look at his son’s case, not as a judge, but as a father.

His son, Louis Nitti, is accused of 11 different charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. Police say the charges were the result of a vehicle stop at around 1:00 a.m. on December 11 on Latta Road at the intersection of Island Cottage Road. Police say that when they made the stop, they found several small bags containing methylphenidate pills. They also found cocaine and marijuana.

Nitti was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon for having a pair of brass knuckles. He faces a number of vehicle and traffic violations.

Because his father is a town judge, Nitti’s case was transferred to Parma Town Court.

News10NBC spoke with Judge Nitti Thursday by phone. He did not want to do an on-camera interview. He says he loves his son and stands by him. He also says he’s confident his son will be treated fairly regardless of who he is. He says that when his son was arrested, he followed all the protocols, bringing it to the attention of the administrative judge in Greece as well as the supervising judge for town and village courts.

A spokesperson for the Greece Police Department declined to comment on camera, but did say that Nitti was treated no differently than anyone else would have been.
