A $281,000 grant is the goal to make Rochester a safer place. Senator Ted O’Brien and Mayor Lovely Warren announced the details of that grant, coming to Action for A Better Community.

The $281,600 will help fund anti-violence efforts on the northeast side of the city. It will create “violence interrupters”, outreach experts who will connect with troubled youth and will encourage non-violent conflict resolution.

News10NBC spoke with Mayor Lovely Warren about what this means for the city.

Mayor Lovely Warren said, “We know that if we're able to intervene and get some resources to them before the violence actually escalates that we may be able to save lives and that's what's important to me."

Officials from Action for A Better Community say the issue of gun violence in Rochester hits close to home for them, after one of their own of their own outreach workers, James Slater, was killed in 2007.
