An Ontario County man is facing animal cruelty charges after sheriff’s deputies say they found two emaciated and malnourished dogs in a home.

The Ontario County Humane Society says 45-year-old Teddy Read of Gorham is charged with cruelty to animals and failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal.

The arrest comes after an animal cruelty investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Ontario County Humane Society that began in December.

Officials say back on December 21 they found two Bluetick Coonhounds, a 6-year-old female named Molly and a 3-year-old male named Gunner, in a home on Arnold Road in Gorham. They say both dogs were emaciated and malnourished, and the dogs also had no food or water in the kennels they were being kept in.

Read was arrested Saturday and issued an appearance ticket to appear at Gorham Town Court at a later date.

News10NBC is told a relative of Read’s agreed to foster the dogs after they received veterinary care.

Officials say both dogs are continuing to recover.
