More than $15-million have been added to help improve student achievement.
It's all part of the city school district's budget proposal for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Bolgen Vargas says young students will get more support to read at grade level, and thousands of others will benefit from more learning time, more career and technical education opportunities and more arts and sports programs.
District officials say there would be a reduction of 205 staff positions, but with current vacancies and projected retirements, they say layoffs would be minimal.
