News10NBC continues to follow Jim Kelly’s battle with cancer. On Friday, we spoke to a local surgeon about what Kelly is facing now that his cancer has returned.

On Monday, we learned the hall of famer's recurring cancer was starting to spread and that he had been flown to a New York City hospital.

On Friday, Jim’s wife, Jill, released emotional video of their youngest daughter, Camryn, seeing her father in the hospital bed in New York City for the first time.

Two days ago, Kelly’s team of doctors determined surgery would not be the best form of treatment. Instead, the former Bills great will begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

News10NBC reached out to Dr. Matthew Miller of the Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester. Although Dr. Miller is not treating Jim Kelly, he says a recurrence of the cancer can be problematic and very painful.

Dr. Matthew Miller, Wilmot Cancer Center, said, “Certainly everyone's different, but these tumors can progress somewhat rapidly depending on the biology of the disease. Ultimately, a treatable tumor, if it's left alone too long, can become an incurable disease.”
