A 20-year-old man is accused of raping a teenage girl and police say he was already on probation.

Jareth Roth is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. Police say he was on probation for a previous sex offense and taking classes for sex offenders.

Roth is behind bars Tuesday night, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl at his home on Bristol Street in Canandaigua. Police say he confessed to the crime.

Detective Scott Kadien, Canandaigua Police Department, said, "There were admissions made for the alleged offense."

But what's more upsetting is police say Roth was already on probation. He was arrested at the Ontario County Complex where detectives say he was taking classes for sex offenders.

Kadien said, “As a cop and as a father and as a human being, it's sickening to me."

News10NBC wanted to know more about that previous offense and why Roth was taking classes for sex offenders, but isn't listed on the state sex offender registry.

Kadien said, “I can say he was on a term of probation for a sex offense. I can't get into the details, I’d have to refer you to the district attorney or probation, but he is in the system for a similar offense."

News10NBC did go to the Ontario County District Attorney's Office, but they were unable to talk about the case for fear of compromising a potential trial.

News10NBC will continue to track down answers in this case. Roth is currently being held in the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. Detectives say the charges against him could be upgraded.
