There is a follow-up to one of our exclusive New York State Exposed reports about how the teacher tenure system may be keeping bad teachers in your child's classroom.
Earlier this month, we looked into how difficult it can be for districts to fire teachers in our New York State Exposed series. Now a non-profit education group plans to sue the state over teacher tenure and layoff procedures. The Partnership for Educational Justice plans to file a lawsuit next month.
Attorneys say they're challenging a law that allows teachers to apply for tenure after only three years on the job. They argue inexperienced teachers are receiving tenure.
The lawsuit will also challenge disciplinary hearings for tenured teachers.
