Police will almost always need a warrant to search a person's cell phone after a Supreme Court ruling today.
Before Wednesday’s decision, police could search a suspect's cell phone when they made an arrest. Today the justices indicated that a search without a warrant violates the Fourth Amendment.
Police will be able to search phones in extreme cases but if that happens, there are courts to determine if that evidence is admissible.
