HUNTER, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a man is dead after fire broke out in a two-room bungalow in the Catskill Mountain town of Hunter.
The fire was reported to Greene County emergency officials at 6 a.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the small structure and flames coming from the bedroom.
Paul Whitman, the sole resident, was found dead inside. Investigators determined the fire was caused by unsafe smoking.
