A Troy man says he could have died, after getting stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver this weekend.
He says the attack came out of nowhere.
According to Francis Smith, he said one short sentence and then found himself with a screwdriver buried deep in the back of his neck.
Francis Smith says he went to the store at the corner of Congress and Third Streets in Troy late Saturday night with his wife and brother to buy some drinks and playing cards..
He says two men walked in..
“So then I walk past the Hispanic male, and he says, what the F***? And I said, are you talking to me? And my wife said, come on Frank, let's go. I said okay. So I turned around, went to the counter, checked my bag. He just came up behind me, pounded it in. My brother just went right after them,” said Smith
Surveillance video inside the store shows a confrontation and a scuffle.
Smith says he didn't even know he had been stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver at first.
Smith says he doesn't know his attacker, that his life is all about work and family, and the most difficult thing was trying to explain to his three children why he wasn't feeling well.
“So I call my kids inside the bedroom. I showed them the back of my neck. I said, some bad guy tried to kill your daddy. They just said, you can't die, we love you,” he said.
smith says he could have lost his life over a bunch of words, and that if the screwdriver had been just a little bit longer, he could have died or been paralyzed.
Police have not made any arrests in this case.
