CIA Director Petraeus resigns due to extramarital affair

General David Petraeus has resigned as director of the CIA after admitting he had an extramarital affair.

In a statement, Petraeus said that he had shown 'extremely poor judgment' in having the affair.

He's been married for 37 years.

His resignation comes one week before he was to testify in a senate hearing on the deadly US consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya.
