RENSSELAER COUNTY - The long-awaited re-trial of Elections Commissioner Edward McDonough for alleged voter fraud got underway this morning in Rensselaer County Court.

McDonough, his wife, and his attorney were in court most of the day as jury selection began.

About 240 prospective jurors crowded the courthouse as the selection process got started in what will be a second trial for McDonough, and the third trial overall in this very long and very expensive investigation and prosecution

The first trial, back in March, resulted in a "hung jury" for McDonough and Michael Loporto, his co-defendant back then.

Loporto was acquitted during his second trial during the summer.

Mcdonough was charged with taking part in a scheme to steal the Working Family’s party line on behalf of Troy Democrats in 2009 by using forged absentee ballots.

He has maintained his innocence all along.
