A training exercise is held for four legged friends who find victims in emergency situations like Hurricane Sandy.
Twenty teams of dogs and handlers from seven states and Mexico all converged in Guilderland Friday night. They were tasked with trying to find pretend victims among storage containers. They were then graded.
"They indicate on a live human scent. They narrow that scent down using the air around them, they narrow it down and then they alert at the strongest point of human scent," Gregory Gould, NYS Fire Prevention and Control.
The training is spread out over three days in different locations.
