Rhamel Brown scored a career-high 21 points and Manhattan closed the game on a 37-19 run in a 75-55 MAAC win over Siena Sunday in Riverdale. It was the seventh straight loss for the Saints. They have two weeks off before returning to the Bronx to play Fordham Dec. 23.
Siena (2-9, 0-2) trailed 38-31 at halftime, but scored the first six points after intermission to close within 38-36 with 15:43 left.
It was all Manhattan (3-5, 1-1) from there.
The Jaspers knocked down 6-14 3-pointers in the second half, including back-breaking back-to-back triples from freshman Shane Richards that pushed the lead to double figures with 11:02 remaining.
Rakeem Brookins scored a career-high 19 points for Siena in a losing effort, and O.D. Anosike posted his ninth double-double in 11 games with 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Saints didn’t get much help from anyone else. Evan Hymes and Rob Poole each scored eight points, and Trenity Burdine had all four of the team’s bench points.
Siena turned the ball over 16 times, compared to just 10 for Manhattan. The Jaspers entered the game ranked 345th of 347 Division I schools with 21.3 turnovers per game. The Saints have had at least as many turnovers as assists in every game this season.
The seven-game losing streak is Siena’s longest since their 6-24 2004-05 campaign.
Manhattan used a 13-2 run to build a 22-9 first half lead, but Siena scored four straight to end the half, cutting the deficit to seven. The Saints came out with great energy in the second half, holding the Jaspers scoreless for the first five minutes before running out of steam.
